The Sublime

Many dont realise the difference between beauty and sublime. It was not until I studied @ VCA a subject 'What is Beauty?' did I realize how complex the subject was.

I Started reading books like Umberto Eco's On Beauty and started to read about aesthetics and then I realized theres so many unanswered questions.

Who really defines Beauty? Humans,Mathematics, Science, as theres so many unknown answers?

When we can not descibe a object beig more than beauty we call it Sublime ...its been around since philosphers started debating what is beauty... First comes Beauty then Sublime but then ?? Metaphysical? its a grey area from what i have researched but one that keeps pulling me too.

The sublime has long been understood to mean a quality of greatness or grandeur that inspires awe and wonder. From the seventeenth century onwards the concept and the emotions it inspires have been a source of inspiration for artists and writers, particularly in relation to the natural landscape.

Discover the history of the sublime and the different ways the idea has been interpreted from the Baroque period to the present day.
